About Us Renunciation of Indian Nationality/Citizenship

INSTANCES HAVE COME TO THE NOTICE OF THE EMBASSY WHEREIN INDIAN NATIONALS HAVE BEEN FOUND TO BE USING THEIR INDIAN PASSPORT EVEN AFTER ACQUIRING FOREIGN CITIZENSHIP/PASSPORT.

If a holder of an Indian Passport acquires nationality of another country, he/she must immediately surrender his/her Indian Passport forthwith to the nearest Indian Mission/Post abroad. Unauthorised possession of an Indian Passport shall constitute an offence punishable under the Indian Passports Act, 1967. Please go through the details regarding the process of renunciation of Indian nationality and surrender of Indian Passport appended below:-

(A) Renunciation of Indian Citizenship and Surrender Certificate for those who have acquired foreign Nationality on or after 01/06/2010:

(The process of Renunciation of Indian citizenship has changed with effect from 21/08/2021)

All applicants are requested not to pay any fee online on the Ministry of Home Affairs citizenship portal while filling up the Renunciation of Nationality online application - You are required to pay requisite fees in PLN + ICWF fees/charges in PLN at the Embassy of India, Warsaw at the time of your appointment for submission of your application. Please send an email to cons.warsaw@mea.gov.infor seeking an appointment in this regard.

N.B: Indian citizens desiring to renounce the citizenship of India may please note that if any person(either FATHER OR MOTHER) ceases to be a citizen of India under sub - section (1) of Section 8 of the Citizenship Act, 1955, every minor child of that person shall cease to be a citizen of India under sub - section(2) of Section 8 of the Citizenship Act, 1955.However, such child may, within one year after attaining full age, make a declaration in the prescribed form and manner that he/she wishes to resume Indian Citizenship.

The following documents are required to be submitted with your application:-

1. Online Application form applied online in the Ministry of Home Affairs (Foreigners Division) website:https://indiancitizenshiponline.nic.in
2. The last held Indian passport is to be presented at the Counter of the Embassy.
3. Nationality Certificate indicating exact date of acquisition of foreign nationality from the concerned commune.
4. Three passport size photograph (size 5.0 cm x 5.0 cm with light background showing front view of face). One of the photos is to be pasted on the application form. The remaining photographs should be submitted intact (please DO NOT staple the photos or sign over them).
5. Current Polish/Lithuanian passport and photocopy
6. Original Indian passport and photocopy of the passport, including endorsements, if any, done by Indian Passport Issuing Authorities.
7. Prescribed Fee of PLN 369 + applicable ICWF charges
8. Current Address Proof.

The applicant has to click on “Declaration of Renunciation of Citizenship under Section 8 of the Act Made by a Citizen of India who is also a Citizen or National of another country” The renouncer would fill all his/her details and upload relevant documents in above mentioned website, please do not pay any fee on the MHA website citizenship portal, thereafter you can take a print-out and visit the Embassy of India Warsaw for signing the declaration before the Consular Officer. Appointments may kindly be scheduled for visiting the Embassy (pls send an email to cons.warsaw@mea.gov.in) for submission of online application form and signing the declaration.

Once the application form is submitted online by the applicant, then no further modifications are allowed. Hence applicants are requested to carefully verify thedetails before submitting the online Application form.

(B)  Surrender Certificate for former Indian nationals, who acquired foreign nationality before 01.06.2010):
