Press Release: Conversion of PIO Card into an OCI Card

Posted on: January 15, 2017 | Back | Print

Since January 2015, all Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) Cardholders are deemed to be Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) Cardholders.

All PIO cardholders are, however, required to obtain fresh OCI cards issued in their name. The PIO cardholders resident in Poland and Lithuania may file their application online at www.passport.gov.in/oci and submit the signed application, along with two documents only – a copy each of the valid PIO card & the current valid passport – at the Embassy of India in Warsaw for verification. The service is rendered free-of-charge.

The Government of India has now set the revised deadline of 30 June 2017 for conversion of PIO cards to OCI cards.

All the persons holding PIO cards are, therefore, advised to get it converted into an OCI card well before the stipulated deadline.
