Karnataka and Wielkopolska become partners

The highly industrialized Wielkopolska region in western Poland (capital Poznan) will now be a partner for one of India's fastest growing and most dynamic states, Karnataka (capital Bengaluru). An agreement operationalizing this partnership was signed by Minister of Industries and Infrastructure of Karnataka, H.E. Mr. RV Deshpande and Member of the Board of Wielkopolska, H.E. Mr. Leszek Wojtasiak, in Poznan on October 12. The signing ceremony was held on the sidelines of the annual POL-ECO environmental fair in Poznan, which saw attendance by a high-powered Karnataka delegation. Ambassador Ajay Bisaria accompanied the delegation, which also included Mr JJ Singh, President of the Indo-Polish trade chamber.  The Letter of Intent lays a road map for intensified cooperation between the regions, in vital sectors such as transport, infrastructure and logistics, IT, automotives, science and education, aviation and Research & Development.

 

  1. While the signing of the letter of intent was the highlight of the 5 day visit (9-13 October), the high level Indian delegation also participated in the POL-ECO SYSTEM trade fair at Poznan and took part in a seminar to showcase the business potential of Karnatka. The delegation included Mr. Gaurav Gupta, Commissioner –Industries & Commerce Department, Mr. Shivakumar, Managing Director, Karnataka Udyog Mitra and Mr. Ravindra, Executive Officer of Karnataka Udyog Mitra.

 

  1. The Minister inaugurated the Poznan Trade Fair, along with other important dignitaries of the region. He later visited the stalls of various exhibitors, including EKOLOG, and enquired about the latest technologies that these exhibitors could offer in the field of environment protection, especially clean water technologies. EKOLOG indicated a plan to invest 50 million USD in Karnataka. The delegation also held detailed discussions with the Deputy Marshal of the Wielkopolska region and with members of the Wielkopolska Regional Parliament. The Karnataka delegation also met representatives of the Polish Chamber of Commerce and Industry and discussed opportunities for cooperation between SMEs of both regions. During all these events, the delegation highlighted the growing investment attractiveness of India and especially Karnataka, and invited investors to Karnataka.  On 12 October, 2016, the delegation visited the Poznan University of Life Sciences and discussed the strong academic programs in Environmental Engineering and Agriculture Sciences, which offer opportunities for student exchanges between both regions. The delegation also visited the Nickel technology park and discussed possibilities for support for start-up companies from India who desire to set up bases in Europe. 

 

  1. During their visit to Warsaw on 13th October, 2016, the delegation met with the representatives of Ministry of Economic Development, Foreign Affairs, EKOLOG, TZMO and the Polish Chamber of Commerce. They participated in a Business Seminar titled: “Investment Opportunities in Karnataka” where the Minister highlighted opportunities in India and particularly in Karnataka. Mr. Gupta outlined the numerous opportunities available in Karnataka specially in IT, Auto-Motive, Aero-Space, Textiles and Tourism sectors and the various incentives offered by Karnataka Government for investment. During the Seminar, the representatives of EKOLOG and TZMO, the two Polish companies based in India, shared their positive experiences in India. The state of Karnataka is a hub for high-tech and bio-technology, and exports products worth 52 billion US$ annually, 13% of India’s total exports.
