India’s Aadhaar Project presents experiences to Digital Poland

A team of professionals with Mr. Ajai Chandra, leading the UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India), held a video conference with Polish Deputy Minister for Digitisation, Mr. Karol Okonski, and a team of the Ministry of Digital Affairs of Poland. The interaction was part of the practice of exchange of experiences, envisaged by the joint Indo-Polish Working Group on Information Technology..

While India has rolled out the digital identity ‘Aadhaar’ project which has more than a billion biometric enrolments, the project already sees six million transactions a day.  It has transformed the lives of ordinary Indians with 3 billion transactions to date, including applications like banking, food and ration subsidies and attendance in government offices.    The two sides agreed to continue exchanges to see if Indian practices would be instructive to Poland in the design phase of its new digital identity project.

Ambassador Ajay Bisaria stated that an exchange of digital experiences would help both sides in fine-tuning their approaches to digital policy. The Deputy Minister of Digitisation thanked the Indian side for a superb presentation and a valuable discussion. Mr. Rao Maddukuri, a telecommunication expert based in Poland, helped facilitate the meeting.
