India and Poland to intensify political & economic engagement

India and Poland agreed to deepen political contact and encourage bilateral trade and investments. In extensive Foreign Office consultations on August 24, the two sides discussed a wide range of bilateral, regional and global issues.

2. In discussing details of cooperation in different economic sectors, they identified strong potential in coal & mining; agriculture & food processing; and in green technologies. They agreed to encourage stronger cooperation between Indian states and the Polish regions.

3. The sides shared their perspectives on regional and international issues, including UN reforms, migration & development assistance matters, as also the situation in Europe and South Asia. Both countries agreed to continue strong cooperation in multilateral fora. India thanked Poland for the strong support it has extended for India’s membership of multilateral export control regimes like MTCR and NSG.

4. The Foreign Office Consultations were held in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Warsaw. The Indian delegation was led by Ms. Sujata Mehta, Secretary (West) and included Mr. Ajay Bisaria, Ambassador of India to Poland and Lithuania, Mr. Subrata Bhattacharjee, Joint Secretary in charge of Central Europe, Mr. A.S. Takhi, First Secretary in the Indian Embassy. The delegation on the Polish side was led by Ms. Katarzyna Kacperczyk, Undersecretary of State assisted by Mr. Michał Kołodziejski, Director of Asia Pacific Division and other senior officers in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
