Coal brings India and Poland together

India and Poland discussed comprehensive cooperation in a range of coal mining activities, clean coal technologies, reclamation of mines, capacity building & machinery manufacturing under ‘Make in India’. A high-level Indian delegation, led by Secretary, Ministry of Coal, Mr Anil Swarup, and comprising, among others, Chairman of Coal India Ltd. today held detailed deliberations with Polish officials and experts, led by the Deputy Ministry at the Ministry of Economic Development. The Indian delegation is due to visit Polish mining sites and technological institutions in Bełchatów, Krakow and Katowice during their visit.

Poland (9th largest coal producer in the world and the 2nd largest in the EU) and India (3rd largest coal producer) share similar concerns on the issue of energy security and environmentally sound extraction. Given the commonality of coal as the primary source of energy for the two countries, immense possibilities exist for co-operation in the coal sector.
