International Driving Permit (IDP) helps the Indian citizens to drive vehicle which is allowed to drive as per Indian Driving Licence, in foreign country which are the signatory of Geneva Convention on Road Traffic, 1949. Both Poland and Lithuania are signatories of the Geneva Convention on Road Traffic, 1949.
Convention on Road Traffic, Geneva, 1949 provides for issue of IDP for one year only and does not have any provision for its renewal. Presently, the applicants are required to apply for re-issue of IDP in India only.
As per the latest notification issued by the Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways (MoRT&H), from 15th February, 2021, IDP holders can get their permit renewed from the Indian Embassies, if these expire when they are still abroad.
For renewal of IDP, take a prior appointment at the Indian Embassy and bring with you the following documents:
- Miscellaneous form duly filled in and signed (Available on Embassy's website)
- Original valid Passport
- Original Visa TRC
- Original existing international driving permit
- Fee of PLN 46; Both card and cash payment is accepted
(Also bring photocopies of the above mentioned documents)
The Indian Embassy will issue a receipt to the applicant. Applicant will then apply for fresh issue of IDP through the portal www.parivahan.gov.in and will upload the documents, including the receipt issued by Indian Embassy abroad.
On receipt of application through the portal, the licencing authority will verify the documents, issue the IDP and shall courier it directly to the address of the applicant.
